SNP tops the list of data loss victims

In the year 2008, SNP of Uk government has lost more than 13 million records in the year, meaning that 25 records are lost every minute. This has clearly revealed the inefficient data security measures. Though the labor department has said that security measures have been tightened, this statement cannot be accepted with the total data lost in the year. The home affairs spokesman has admitted that the result is actually shocking and there have been nine threatening security beaches last year.  

Instead of admitting data loss and calling it a disaster, SNP has to take steps to prevent loss of massive amounts of data in the upcoming year.

An insight into overall data loss events

Cisco in its comprehensive stuffy of data leakage trends uncovered several common reasons that lead to data loss. Employee driven data leakage topped the reasons for data loss. Use of non IT-approved applications contributed to about 24% of data loss. The managers admitted that some of their employees tried to gain unauthorized access to restricted locations. Also, the workers allowed non company people to access company specific information.  

Only 50% of the workers take care to ensure that they are not being spied. Several others don’t even consider the security of the environment. The chief security officer of Cisco said that new technology has to be evolved to secure sensitive data.

UK government is rocked by the data losses

In the past few months, UK government has faced a number of public data losses. A lot of information related to prisoners, hospitals, personal details of officials has been lost and the government is struggling to find the reasons. These days, the UK government is searching for people to trust with the personal details. Many small and large data loss disasters have badly affected the government. Though many officials were disciplined related to data loss issue, these scandals prove the need for country wide data security mechanism. The prime minister admits that the government is not good at protecting the data and the data breach threat is more as the amount of digital information is expected to double in the next couple of years.
