Preserving digital data

Data loss has become a common issue for every computer user starting from beginners to enterprises. Though several new technologies have been introduced to store and retrieve digital data, data storage is still a problematic issue at all levels. The reason behind the problems is that the rate of introduction of digital data is much higher than the production of data storage devices.  

It becomes the responsibility of the individual to protect his own data. If you have essential data that has to be preserved for several years, you have to look for ways to duplicate the data and store it in various places in different formats. Also, users must adapt to new technologies and use free storage space offered by cloud computing.

Tough data loss rules proposed in Britain

The British government is seriously considering implementing tougher data loss rules.

There have been a number of data losses recently in Britain and the government is pretty serious about this. With new technologies being developed it is becoming important to secure the personal data in both the public and private sectors

 

As per the new rules the information commissioner would be given more powers to enforce the Data Protection Act. It has also been proposed to increase the fines.

 

All companies, private or public are expected to show some evidence of their compliance with this new law.

UK government is rocked by the data losses

In the past few months, UK government has faced a number of public data losses. A lot of information related to prisoners, hospitals, personal details of officials has been lost and the government is struggling to find the reasons. These days, the UK government is searching for people to trust with the personal details. Many small and large data loss disasters have badly affected the government. Though many officials were disciplined related to data loss issue, these scandals prove the need for country wide data security mechanism. The prime minister admits that the government is not good at protecting the data and the data breach threat is more as the amount of digital information is expected to double in the next couple of years.
