Data loss incidents may increase in 2009

Data loss has been an alarming threat in the year 2008 with about 92 million of lost records. Data loss barometer from KPMG suggests that the number of victims of data loss may increase to upto 190 million in 2009. This number is derived by studying the data loss percentage in the last year. The economic pressures and mobility of data storage devices have created serious threat to the sensitive data.  

According to the recent studies, financial sector is prepared to meet malicious data theft attempts while other sectors such as telecommunications and utilities are still under developed to tackle data loss incidents.

SNP tops the list of data loss victims

In the year 2008, SNP of Uk government has lost more than 13 million records in the year, meaning that 25 records are lost every minute. This has clearly revealed the inefficient data security measures. Though the labor department has said that security measures have been tightened, this statement cannot be accepted with the total data lost in the year. The home affairs spokesman has admitted that the result is actually shocking and there have been nine threatening security beaches last year.  

Instead of admitting data loss and calling it a disaster, SNP has to take steps to prevent loss of massive amounts of data in the upcoming year.
